Dolphreaky's Phriends Inc.
OVERDOSE PREVENTION &
NALOXONE DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM
In Partnership with Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) and ISAVEFL
WHAT IS NALOXONE (NARCAN)?
Naloxone is an FDA-approved medication designed to rapidly reverse opioid overdose. It is an opioid antagonist—meaning that it binds to opioid receptors and can reverse and block the effects of other opioids, such as heroin, morphine, and oxycodone. Administered when a patient is showing signs of opioid overdose, naloxone is a temporary treatment and its effects do not last long. Therefore, it is critical to obtain medical intervention as soon as possible after administering/receiving naloxone. Naloxone comes in several forms, but we are primarily distributing the nasal spray version (NARCAN).
NOTE: NARCAN will only work in the instance of opioid overdose. It will not work on overdoses of non-opioids such as cocaine and benzodiazepines.

See www.narcan.com for specific information.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
Dolphreaky’s Phriends Inc. has partnered with ISAVEFL to become a registered Naloxone Provider via the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) Overdose Prevention Program. The Overdose Prevention Program is designed to reduce opioid overdose deaths by providing free access to FDA-approved emergency opioid
antagonists (i.e., Naloxone - NARCAN Nasal Spray) to individuals at risk of witnessing or experiencing an opioid overdose.

The goals of our program are as follows:
-
Provide overdose recognition and response training to individuals who may witness or experience an opioid overdose
-
Distribute FREE NALOXONE KITS to individuals at risk of experiencing an opioid overdose, as well as to friends and family members who may witness an opioid overdose.
NALOXONE DISTRIBUTION SITES
STARTING September 24th, 2023:
Dolphreaky’s Phriends Inc. will be distributing FREE naloxone kits at the East 12
Tailgate at all 2023 Miami Dolphins Home Games (Orange Lot, Row 209) and SWFL Dolfan Club Watch Parties in which Dolphreaky will be in attendance.
To obtain your FREE NARCAN, you must find Dolphreaky. No one else can give you the Narcan. You must receive counselling and instruction on its use directly from Dolphreaky herself as she is the only member of our organization who is formally trained in naloxone administration.

IMPORTANT: IF A NARCAN KIT YOU RECEIVE IS USED IN AN OPIOID REVERSAL, PLEASE LET US KNOW SO WE CAN REPORT BACK ON THE SUCESS OF THE PROGRAM! NO SPECIFICS NEEDED. JUST EMAIL US THAT A KIT YOU RECEIVED WAS USED IN A REVERSAL.
HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED
You can get involved in several ways:

- CARRY A NARCAN WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES. You never know when an overdose could occur or when you might be able to unexpectedly help someone. Overdoses can happen anywhere, any time. Even people who regularly take opioids and do it according to their prescribed directions can be subject to accidental overdose, due to factors such as co-administration of other substances, body metabolism changes, illness, etc.
- Spread the word about our program and its goals on social media, by word-of-mouth, or any others means
- Donate to Dolphreakys Phriends Inc. While the naloxone is obtained for free from the state, we do have administrative costs associated with keeping this program alive.
- Educate yourself on the dangers of opioids and about the signs and symptoms of overdose.
HOW THE PROGRAM STARTED
Dolphreaky herself is a licensed pharmacist in the state of Florida and has witnessed firsthand how the opioid crisis affects people, their friends, and their families. State regulations now require pharmacists to offer patients naloxone when they are on high-dose or complex pain management regimens. Dolphreaky has extensive training on the appropriate use of naloxone and feels there is a need for naloxone in the sporting event culture, primarily at tailgates and parties.

It’s no secret recreational drug use takes place at sporting events, including football games. While we cannot stop drug use and abuse, we CAN ensure NO ONE dies from an opioid overdose.
Recreational use aside, many people take opioids under the direction of a prescribed pain management regimen and accidental overdoses can occur unexpectedly.

Dolphreaky adamantly worked to get involved with the state's program as a means of marrying her pharmacy career with her love for football and Miami Dolphins fanbase.
WHAT THIS PROGRAM IS NOT
The goal of this program is to save lives; it is not to convince people to stop using or abusing drugs. Preventing DEATHS is the primary objective. Readiness to quit is an individual decisons and there are many resources for help getting clean - however, the Dolphreaky's Phriends Overdose Prevention and Naloxone Distribution Program is not intending to provide those services.

We are however, a proponent of the "Never Use Alone" Hotline. The majority of opioid deaths occurs because the user is ALONE. The idea is to have someone on the phone with you when you feel the need to use drugs. They will not attempt to talk you out of it, but merely standby in the event you become unresponsive.
